Clare Macdonald creates films, installations, writing, and art exploring the collision between the individual and systemic forces: family, faith, institutions, inherited structures. Their work centres characters navigating isolation, belief, and power across narrative film, serial storytelling, and hybrid forms. Their shorts Death of a Pet, The Nocebo Effect, and A Wait interrogate generational control and coming-of-age under fragile authority, while their webseries Bleachers uses genre tropes to examine power structures, social systems, and selfhood. Their artist film Lapdogs & Fools explores invisible and oppressive systems through embodiment, and was recently exhibited at Vielmettter, Los Angeles. In addition to their authored works, they have co-written and collaborated on multiple projects supported by leading international institutions including Annecy, Berlinale, and Canneseries, and have worked as a creative for global brands. They are currently developing their debut feature.
